"Harvey Milk" - (Official title of this movie is "Milk") - "Harvey Milk" (1930-1978) was an activist and politician, and the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in America; in 1977, he was voted to the city supervisors' board of San Francisco. The following year, both he and the city's mayor George Moscone were shot to death by another city supervisor, Dan White. Harvey Milk, the man, was previously the subject of the Academy Award-winning documentary feature "The Times of Harvey Milk" (1984), directed by Rob Epstein and produced by Richard Schmiechen. Oscar nominated director Gus Van Sant's "Milk" is the first non-documentary feature to explore the man's life and career.

With his new film, "Australia," Baz Luhrmann (who catapulted Nicole Kidman to fame in "Moulin Rouge") painted on a vast canvas, and created a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.

Perhaps Baz Luhrmann will have better luck with Nicole Kidman in this epic than Ron Howard did with her in the dreadful "Far And Away." Although, Wild About Movies grade for "Australia" isn't much better than the grade Tim Nasson, publisher of Wild About Movies, gave "Far And Away" over a decade ago.

Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew's videotape.

When fate steps in, and Dr. Glickenstein accidentally gets on the wrong side of his own invention, bringing about his own end, Igor seizes his chance and sets out to make his dream come true. Concealing his master’s demise, and with the help of his own secret experimental creations – Brain, a not so bright brain-in-a-jar, and Scamper, a rabbit with a death wish, who despite his best efforts just can’t die, Igor sets out to build the most evil invention ever - a huge, ferocious Monster, designed to reign terror upon all in its path. Henry's self-imposed exile is shattered when Esperanza discovers a mysterious stain on Henry's stucco wall that is seen to have miraculous powers. She begins leading pilgrimages to the “holy site” and invites church officials, including her pastor, Father Salizar (George Lopez), to inspect the apparition.

Although Henry remains skeptical, he finds himself gradually drawn back towards life, especially after his silent friendship with Millie brings him closer to Dawn. As news of the apparition spreads throughout the neighborhood and his feelings for Dawn grow, Henry realizes his plan to live out his days in quiet desperation is going to be much harder than he ever imagined.

"Holding Trevor" is a sometimes funny, sometimes scathing inspection of a group of friends and lovers that offers a prescient and biting analysis of men and women struggling to make sense of their lives and relationships, all the while reaching every which way but into their own hearts to do so. Sometimes, a step in the right direction means forging a whole new path. "Holding Trevor" is continually poignant, relentlessly self-deprecating, and just the type of cerebral dark comedy that can speak directly to the twenty-somethings of today while letting other generations in on the joke.

Ham spends most of his time tweaking the ship's pompous commander, Titan (Patrick Warburton), or flirting with Luna (Cheryl Hines), his fetching lieutenant, but as the only one immune to the effects of the wormhole, he is indispensable to the mission.

After a crash landing on the planet Malgor, Titan is taken prisoner by Zartog (Jeff Daniels), a megalomaniacal alien who has commandeered the Infinity and enslaved the other Malgoreans. In exchange for her help navigating the dreaded Valley of Really Bad Things to rescue their commander, Ham and Luna promise a desperate alien named Kilowatt (Kristin Chenoweth) they will free her people.

Titan is about to be turned into a statue in Zartog's growing gallery--made up of uncooperative minions dipped in molten lava and displayed as a reminder of his omnipotence--when his companions stage a heroic rescue and retake their ship. As they prepare for takeoff, Ham is reminded of his vow to Kilowatt and must decide whether to return home or take a giant step for chimp-kind and live up to his grandfather's legacy.

How's this for irony? Former "Batman" Val Kilmer, (remember him in the 1995 "Batman Forever?"), who is now fatter than he's ever been, stars in "Felon," opening the same day as "The Dark Knight," the latest in the "Batman" franchise. "Felon" is getting a release in three movie theaters, NYC and LA, combined, while "The Dark Knight" opens in nearly 5000 theaters.

As her mind wanders in and out of the present, we experience with her the defining moments, hidden passions and characters of her past - her affluent but cold and demanding father whose suffocating love drives her to rebel and marry the opposite of the man he would have chosen for her; her husband Bram Shipley, a man who unleashes her passion for love and life, yet refuses to meet the rigid social standards she is driven by; and the children she bears, sons whose future becomes ruled by the past. While hiding out in the dilapidated house, she meets a young man, Leo, who unwittingly causes Hagar to face the one big secret she must take to her grave -her role in her youngest son's spiritual and physical death. Coming to terms with mortality, Hagar also must wrestle with and slay her bitter pride - the same pride that denied her the love and appreciation for her living son who craves his mother's love and approval. Hagar now acknowledges the irony of having lived her life craving her father's approval, something she never gained. Hagar quickly becomes deathly sick and is finally found by Marvin just in time. Although now willing to go to a nursing home, Marvin tells her it is too late. The hospital will be her next and last stop. But as mortality edges near, their relationship develops new terms and Hagar admits that Marvin's father was a good man in his heart and that she and Marvin can be proud of the name they carry. Nearing the end, Hagar can no longer struggle against her emotions. She recognizes just how much her pride cost her and her family and how her own father's influence defined her against her will. She and Marvin find the closure and redemption they seek from each other.

Word is that 20th Century Fox retitled "Dave" because they didn't want anyone to remember that other Eddie Murphy comedy sci-fi movie - "Pluto Nash."

Both "Meet Dave" and "Pluto Nash" - yes, each - cost more than $100 million to produce. "Pluto Nash" took in a meager $4 million in United States movie theaters during its entire run.

We're not sure if pandas will be as popular as penguins on the big screen but if "Kung Fu Panda" is half as good as it promises to be, it will be one of the most popular family films of Summer 2008.

Dude quickly learns how liberating it can be when there is nothing left to lose. He learns never to trust a messiah, especially when that messiah has written his own bible. "Street Kings" - In "Street Kings," (formerly known as "The Night Watchman"), a police thriller directed by David Ayer, Keanu Reeves plays Tom Ludlow, a veteran LAPD Vice Detective. Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker plays Captain Wander, Ludlow's supervisor, whose duties include keeping him within the confines of the law and out of the clutches of Internal Affairs Captain Biggs (Hugh Laurie). Ludlow teams up with a young Robbery Homicide Detective (Chris Evans) to track Washington's killers through the diverse communities of Los Angeles. Their determination pays off when the two Detectives track down Washington's murderers and confront them in an attempt to bring them to justice.

In the movie "The Ruins," six twenty-something friends on vacation in Cancun go on an excursion to visit an archaeological dig near Coba. The friends include Jeff (Jonathan Tucker), a type A guy who is set to begin medical school in the fall; Amy, Jeff's girlfriend, who is also set to begin medical school, and who is smart and emotional; Stacy, Amy's best friend, an aspiring social worker whose nickname is "Spacy" and who is irresponsible and promiscuous; Eric, Stacy's boyfriend, who is immature, and set to become a high school teacher; a fun-loving Greek guy who everyone calls "Pablo," but who lacks a common language with any of the others; and Mathias, an intense, thoughtful German tourist. Mathias' brother, Henrich, vanished shortly before the Americans and Greeks met Mathias--he met a beautiful Dutch archaeologist and decided to meet her at her dig, leaving a hastily drawn map for Mathias to follow in case he wanted to join him. The five others decide to accompany Mathias in his search for his brother, and take a bus to Coba for the day. Things immediately start to go wrong, as the group isn't well prepared for the heat and insects, and the journey becomes creepy. The poorly drawn map leads them to a Mayan village, where the grievously poor inhabitants appear hostile to the foreigners. Further searching leads them to an almost-hidden trail that they follow to the ruins.
